Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information MapLocal ("we", "us") collects when you use MapLocal (the website at maplocal.ai, our free visibility scan, review pages and related services), how we use it, and your choices. We are based in Ontario, Canada, and handle personal information in line with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
Information we collect
- Information you give us: your name, email, phone number, business name, city and the search terms you enter when you run a scan, contact us or become a client.
- Public business information: details that are publicly shown on Google Maps and other directories, such as business names, addresses, ratings, review counts and search rankings.
- Google Business Profile data (only if you connect your Google account): the business profiles you choose to connect, their details, and their reviews, so we can show them to you and post replies or updates that you approve or set to publish automatically.
- Review page feedback: if a customer sends private feedback through a business's review page, we store their message and any name or contact details they choose to include, and share them with that business.
- Technical information: IP address and basic visit records, used to prevent abuse and limit free scans. We use a small number of cookies needed for the site to work (for example, keeping you logged in). We do not use advertising cookies.
How we use information
- To run scans and produce reports, rankings and recommendations.
- To provide our services to clients, including drafting and (where authorized) publishing review replies and posts.
- To contact you about your scan or our services. You can ask us to stop at any time.
- To keep the service secure and prevent misuse.
We do not sell personal information.
Service providers
We use trusted providers to run the service, and share only what they need:
- Search data providers (such as DataForSEO) to check public Google Maps rankings.
- AI providers (such as Anthropic) to write review replies, posts and recommendations. Business details and review text are sent to generate this content.
- Hosting, email and payment providers (such as Cloudflare and Stripe).
- Google, when you connect your Google Business Profile.
Some providers may process information outside Canada, for example in the United States.
Google user data
MapLocal's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We use Google Business Profile data only to provide the features you request, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not sell it. You can disconnect your Google account at any time from your account or from your Google Account settings (Security → Third-party connections).
How long we keep information
We keep scan results and contact details for as long as needed to provide the service and follow up on your request, generally no longer than 24 months for prospects who don't become clients. Client data is kept while you are a client and deleted within 90 days after you leave, unless we must keep it longer by law.
Your choices and rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your personal information, or withdraw consent to being contacted, by emailing [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days.
